How to add iPhone screenshots to Figma using Rotato

Quickly capture and place real iPhone screenshots into your Figma designs—using the free Rotato plugin.

This tutorial requires the Rotato for Figma plugin.

Design teams work with screenshots all the time. Sometimes you need them for context—to scope out what you want to design, audit competitors, or simply use them as placeholders in your layout.

The manual process from your phone is a bit tedious: unlock your phone, open the app, take screenshots, Airdrop them to your computer, drag them into Figma, and start organizing. But it doesn’t have to be so painful—learn how to do all of that from Figma itself, using the free Rotato plugin.

How to import iPhone screenshots into 3D mockups in Figma

  1. Make sure the Rotato App is open and running.
  2. Open your design file in Figma and run the plugin.
  3. Connect your iPhone to your laptop via USB.
  4. In the plugin UI, switch to the phone tab (Morten’s phone in the video tutorial below).
  5. Click the “Snapshot” button to create a screenshot.
  6. Click “Place on Page” to add it to your design file.

That’s it—simple, right? Screenshotting has never been easier. Take as many screenshots from your phone to Figma as you need, using our Figma plugin.

How to import iPhone screenshots without 3D mockups

If you want classic screenshots straight from your iPhone, we can do that too. Simply uncheck the “Frame snapshot in a 3D mockup” option in the Rotato plugin, and we’ll work with screenshots alone.

How to create 3D mockups of your Figma designs

Of course, that’s not all the plugin can do. We built it to help you quickly create stunning 3D mockups from your design files. Same process, really:

  1. Again, open the Rotato App on your MacBook.
  2. Open your design file and run the Rotato Figma plugin.
  3. Toggle back to the “Selection” tab and select a frame to turn into a mockup.
  4. Hit “Render” and wait.
  5. Rotato should pop up with the mockup ready for you to review.

Once that’s done, you can place the mockup directly onto your Figma file—or continue editing and exporting from Rotato, depending on your workflow.
